Preventing the Extinction of Pygmy Rabbits
As of today, Pygmy Rabbits are near extinct in Washington state. Pygmy Rabbits are becoming extinct all over the country because of four main factors which include gas and oil wells, livestock grazing, aggressive habitat alteration projects, and brush fires that have destroyed their habitat. Because sagebrush was destroyed, they cannot eat or be protected from predators. Some zoos and national parks have tried to preserve their habitat by banning any use of the land while others have taken other matters which include taking them from the habitat and trying to breed them to keep their species alive. Some pygmy rabbits are in bad physical condition and must be monitored until they are ready to be released into the wild.
